How to Build an Abundance Mindset

Your mind is powerful such that it influences the direction of your life. Some studies show that your thinking has an impact even on your immune system. In fact, some say what you think is what you are. The power of the mind is one reason why it’s important to have an abundance mindset.

Developing an abundant mindset impacts your life and your financial success.  When you have an abundance mindset you feel clear, confident, and capable.  When you have a scarcity mentality you fear the unknown and believe there is only so much of everything available in the world.  

Someone with an abundance mindset is grateful and appreciative of everything they have in their life.  An abundance mindset refers to the belief that there is plenty of everything for everybody in the world. 

What is Abundance Mindset?

An abundance mindset was coined by Stephen Covey in The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. This 1989 best seller taught Americans that in order to change your life, you need to change your mindset.

 An abundance mindset means to see the limitless potential in life. It means you can see the potential in yourself, and everyone around you. As a result, you intentionally drive yourself toward creating the life you want. You choose to focus on the positive things in your life rather than the negative things.

 Someone with an abundant mentality is an optimist and is always looking for ways to learn, grow, and achieve the goals that are most important to them.  A person with an abundant mindset believes there is plenty available for everybody and looks at each of their experiences as an opportunity to learn and grow. 

This is opposed to scarcity mindset which states that if someone wins, then you lose. In other words, there are only so many resources to go around.

How to Have an Abundance Mindset

1. Practice gratitude to create abundance life

Being grateful is such a small yet powerful tool. Someone with an abundance mindset practices gratitude.  They have an appreciation for what they have and are not envious of what others have. Write down one thing you’re grateful for in your planner or diary or just spend some time being grateful before you go to bed.

 People with an abundance mentality focus on their strengths and expand their gratitude.  They also express appreciation for the people they have in their life.

Abundant people make it a habit to look for the positives in any situation.  They look for learning experiences, rather than focusing on things that went wrong. 

2. Tune your thought to abundance mindset

Your thoughts are key to an abundance mindset and attracting prosperity into your life. Part of that is thinking big and practicing affirmations. Don’t think about scarcity. If a friend gets a new job or a colleague gets a promotion, don’t think about how you wanted that job or promotion.

 By taking time to notice what type of thoughts are circulating in your head, you can begin to make a conscious effort to shift your thoughts towards abundance. Instead, be happy for them and think that there will be other jobs and opportunities out there for you. You can even take it a step further and think that you didn’t get the job because it wasn’t meant for you. And when you do get a new job or promotion, it will be the one that is right for you.

3. Surround yourself with friends who have abundance mentality

Someone with an abundance mindset surrounds themselves with other abundance-minded people. Abundant people look for others who can push them forward and cheer them on.  They also look for people to hold them accountable and celebrate achievements. Such people will upgrade their thinking.

4. Focus on doing what you love

Someone with an abundance mentality spends their time doing what they love to do.  This prepares them to capture bigger opportunities.  

Abundant people know that doing what they love to do is the fastest way to increased happiness.  Instead of doing things they don’t like, they focus on opportunities.  

Abundant-minded people focus on accomplishments and progress.  They get a better feeling about themselves by doing more of the activities they love to do. 

To ensure they spend more time doing what they love to do, abundance-minded people set their days up for success.  They identify their biggest priorities for the day.  They also spend their most valuable time working on them.

5. Create an abundant life

To create an abundant life, it’s important to create a vision of who you want to be in the future.  Goal setting gives your life direction, purpose and builds confidence.  Goals increase motivation and build excitement about your future.   

Having a clear vision increases feelings of abundance.  It also removes complexity and complication, which makes things seem simpler.  When you feel abundant, your vision acts as a guiding path.  It also helps you feel confident and capable to achieve that future vision.

6. Focus on your strength

Having an abundance mentality means you focus on your unique strengths.  Instead of trying to improve weaknesses, you focus on your biggest capabilities. 

You understand the impact your thoughts and actions have on other people.  This gives you a sense of abundance.  It also ensures you feel like you’re progressing in the areas of your life that are most important to you.  

Abundance makes you feel anything is possible.  Feelings of abundance increase energy and creativity and help you feel more confident. Someone with an abundance mindset is always moving forward positively.  They understand that their strengths give them a platform to grow faster.

7. Recite abundance affirmations daily

According to research from Carnegie Mellon University, the use of positive affirmations can improve your problem-solving skills and decrease signs of stress. Using affirmations can help to shift your mentality from scarcity to abundance.

8. Build a life of abundance thinking  

Abundance thinking is an attitude that increases confidence and positivity.  Someone who has abundant thinking craves learning and growth.  They look for new knowledge and wisdom to improve their mindset and performance.

Abundant people focus on improving their positive mindset.  They seek out people who can help them grow.  They also take care of their mind and body to do more and achieve more.

Abundance mindset makes a person feels more positive, empowered, and confident. It gives you confidence to achieve your goals. People with an abundance mentality look at what is working and what strengths they have.  They focus on expanding those strengths, rather than trying to improve weaknesses.

 Someone with an abundance mindset notices the good in everything.  As well as feeling abundant, they express thankfulness for what they have and focus on making positive progress.

Someone with an abundance mentality practices gratitude and builds positive habits.  They also have a clear purpose and spend valuable time doing what they love to do.
